Optometrist to Work as Medical Scribe


Position Title: Optometrist (Remote Scribe & Documentation Support)
Reports To: LASIK Surgeon and Ophthalmologist in America
Location: Remote
Schedule: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (U.S. EST overlap required)


Role Overview


We are seeking an

Optometrist with excellent English proficiency to support our U.S.-based ophthalmology practice. The candidate will work as a medical scribe responsible for transferring Heidi AI-generated notes into our Nextech EMR. This position requires minimal data entry as the AI does most of the work but a skilled doctor is needed to ensure accuracy, completeness, and real-time clinical support.


The position also includes directly speaking with patients to collect medical histories, schedule follow up appointments, and send medications and speaking with doctors by phone and text massage to complete referral communications and coordinate key follow-up tasks.


This role is ideal for a detail-oriented medical professional who understands ophthalmic terminology and clinical workflows, and who can reliably deliver real-time documentation.


Key Responsibilities


Clinical Documentation & Scribing


  • Review and translate Heidi AI transcription output into accurate Nextech EMR notes.
  • Ensure all documentation is entered in real time or within 1–2 hours of the patient encounter on clinic days (Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday).
  • When dictation is incomplete or fails, promptly contact the physician in clinic to clarify details and document the visit as completely as possible.


Communications


  • Draft and finalize letters and text messages to referring doctors, ensuring professional tone and clinical accuracy.
  • Maintain consistency with practice-approved communication templates.


Care Coordination Support


  • Assign medication refills, follow-up appointments, and patient instructions to the appropriate staff in the EMR.
  • Ensure smooth communication between physician and staff for post-visit actions.


Required Qualifications


  • Optometry experience (current residents encouraged to apply).
  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmology terms, diagnoses, and treatments.
  • Master-level English proficiency (written and spoken); able to draft polished professional correspondence independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in medical documentation.
  • Ability to work U.S. EST hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for live or nearly real time transcription support.
  • Self-motivated, responsive, and capable of working independently in a remote setting.
