You will experience an international work environment with lean management. The Peter Lang headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, are the central hub for management and administration. The rest of our team is based in continental Europe, Anglo-American regions, and Asia with offices in Berlin, New York, Oxford, Brussels, Chennai and supporting locations in Vienna, Warsaw, Istanbul and Madrid.

We are seeking a

Data Manager

to lead and oversee data governance, quality, and integration initiatives across our organization. This role will be critical in ensuring the reliability, consistency, and strategic value of our data assets.

You will work cross-functionally with business stakeholders, data engineers, BI developers, and compliance officers to structure, enrich and deliver data that supports informed decision-making and digital transformation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define and maintain data governance policies, standards, and best practices across departments.
  
• Supervise data flows, metadata, and quality controls in collaboration with IT and analytics teams.
  
• Develop and maintain a centralized data catalog and ensure proper documentation of sources, lineage, and ownership.
  
• Support data modeling and the design of data architectures (both logical and physical).
  
• Work closely with BI teams to ensure Power BI dashboards are connected to verified, consistent datasets.
  
• Monitor and improve data quality, manage issues related to duplicates, inconsistencies, and missing data.
  
• Collaborate on the implementation of ETL/ELT pipelines, both on-premise and in cloud environments (Azure Data Factory).
  
• Facilitate integration of data collected via Power Apps or automated workflows using Power Automate.
  
• Assist with compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, data retention policies).
  
• Promote data literacy across the organization and provide support to data consumers.
  

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Proven experience as a Data Manager, Data Governance Lead, or similar role.
  
• Strong command of SQL (preferably Oracle or SQL Server).
  
• Hands-on experience with Power BI, including dataset modeling, relationships, and dataflows.
  
• Knowledge of data quality frameworks, metadata management, and data catalog tools.
  
• Solid understanding of data privacy and protection regulations (e.g., GDPR).
  
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  

Desired Qualifications & Skills:

• Experience with Azure Data Factory or other data orchestration tools (e.g., SSIS, Talend).
  
• Knowledge of Power Apps and Power Automate, especially for integrating operational data.
  
• Familiarity with Microsoft Dataverse, SharePoint, or Dynamics 365 as data sources.
  
• Exposure to data governance tools such as Azure Purview, Collibra, or Alation.
  
• Understanding of data warehouse design and cloud data architectures (Azure preferred).
  
• Certification in data management frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, CDMP) is a plus.
