Veterinarian / Veterinary Doctor / BVSc & AH
A Veterinarian provides medical care to animals by diagnosing illnesses, performing surgeries, prescribing treatments, and advising owners on proper animal care. They may work in private clinics, animal hospitals, farms, zoos, research labs, or for government agencies.
- Examine animals to assess their health and diagnose issues.
- Treat wounds, perform surgeries, and prescribe medications.
- Administer vaccinations and preventative treatments.
- Advise pet or animal owners on diet, general care, and breeding.
- Use diagnostic tools like X-rays, ultrasounds, and lab tests.
- Euthanize animals when necessary in a humane way.
- Keep detailed medical records of all animals treated.
- Respond to emergency animal health issues.
- May supervise veterinary technicians or assistants.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent).
- Licensed to practice (based on local or national regulations).
- Strong knowledge of animal physiology and pathology.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Compassion and patience in dealing with animals and their owners.
- Good manual dexterity (especially for surgeries).
- Communication and interpersonal skills.
