Sr. Pharmacist

Job Summary:

The Senior Pharmacist – IP Pharmacy will be responsible for supervising inpatient pharmacy operations, coordinating with all departments (OT, Vaccination, Wards, Dialysis, Critical Units, OP Pharmacy), and managing inventory functions including PO, GRN, vendor returns, invoice processing, implant receiving, gate pass, and inter-campus coordination with central pharmacy purchase and stores. The role also includes documentation, compliance, metrics analysis, and stock audit preparation.

A.

· Supervise day-to-day functioning of IP pharmacy including medicine dispensing to wards, ICUs, dialysis, and other units.

· Ensure timely indent processing and reduce turnaround time (TAT) for emergency/STAT drugs.

· Monitor rack/bin arrangement, expiry tracking, and enforce FIFO / FEFO practices.

B.

· Oversee stock receiving process as per Purchase Order (PO) and verify GRN entries.

· Ensure physical and system reconciliation of received goods.

· Process vendor returns for near-expiry, damaged, or excess stock and follow-up for credit note.

· Verify invoices, supporting documents, and ensure timely submission to Accounts Department.

· Maintain Gate Pass records for incoming and outgoing items.

· Supervise stock dispatch to various departments including OT, ICU, dialysis, vaccination, and OP pharmacy.

C.

· Liaise with vendors and distributors for timely supply, shortage handling, and issue resolution.

· Follow up with central purchase & stores (inter-campus) for pending items, item master updates, and stock transfer.

· Manage implant receiving and follow-up based on OT schedules and consumption.

· Coordinate with vendors on invoice disputes, pricing issues, and return pickups.

D.

· Coordinate with wards, OT, dialysis, vaccination clinic, OP pharmacy, and critical care units for department-specific drug and consumable supply.

· Handle stock transfers across departments and ensure documentation for inter-unit movement.

· Track ward-level consumables, usage patterns, and ensure timely replenishment.

· Identify and follow up on short-expiry or low-moving items from all departments.

E.

· Assist in monthly stock audit – prepare reconciliation, variance reporting, and documentation.

· Handle DC stock follow-up, return and issue resolution.

· Maintain and update the Item Master in coordination with purchase team.

· Review stock metrics and consumption data to identify trends, excesses, or shortages.

· Address department-specific stock issues and support staff with alternate solutions.

F.

· Supervise pharmacy assistants and junior pharmacists; ensure task delegation and shift coverage.

· Train new staff in pharmacy workflow, safety practices, and SOP adherence.

· Ensure compliance with NABH, Drug & Cosmetic Act, Schedule H/Narcotics, and internal SOPs.

· Maintain proper logs, registers, and documentation for all audit and compliance needs.

· Strong pharmacy operations and inventory management knowledge
