MEP Design & Estimation Engineer

Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Job Summary:

The MEP Design & Estimation Engineer will be responsible for developing detailed electrical and plumbing design calculations, preparing accurate Bill of Materials (BOM), and performing quantity take-offs to support both pre-contract and post-contract phases. This role ensures precise cost estimations, value engineering, and cost optimisation for MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) projects, contributing to successful project delivery and budget adherence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform detailed electrical design load calculations to determine power requirements, sizing of components, and system capacity.
  
• Conduct plumbing design calculations , including hydraulic analysis, pipe sizing, and water demand estimations to ensure efficient system design.
  
• Prepare precise Bill of Materials (BOM) and carry out quantity take-offs for materials, labor, equipment, and other resources aligned with project specifications.
  
• Develop comprehensive pre-contract cost estimations for MEP systems, incorporating material, labor, installation, testing, commissioning, and indirect costs.
  
• Manage post-contract estimation including ongoing quantity tracking and BOM updates to support project execution and financial control.
  
• Engage in value engineering initiatives to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality, ensuring optimal resource utilization and budget efficiency.
  
• Review and analyze tender documents, drawings, and specifications to develop accurate cost proposals.
  
• Collaborate with design teams, procurement, construction managers, and vendors to validate quantities, technical specifications, and pricing.
  
• Prepare technical clarifications and contribute to bid documentation including commercial and technical submissions.
  
• Participate in site visits and support project teams with technical guidance on MEP system designs and implementation.
  
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes, industry standards, and project requirements in all design and estimation work.
  
• Maintain cost databases and update estimation software tools for enhanced accuracy and reporting.
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor�s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline with a focus on MEP.
  
• Minimum 5 years experience in MEP design and estimation, preferably with exposure to both pre-contract and post-contract phases.
  
• Proven experience in electrical load calculation, plumbing design calculations, BOM preparation, and quantity take-offs.
  
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, MEP systems, and cost estimation principles.
  
• Proficiency in relevant software tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, MS Excel, and specialized estimation software.
  
• Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
  
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality standards.
  
• Experience in value engineering and cost optimization techniques is a significant advantage.
  

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with project management software and BIM (Building Information Modeling) tools.
  
• Exposure to large-scale construction projects and procurement processes.
  
• Ability to prepare technical reports, tender submissions, and commercial bid documents.
